Role Overview: Supervisory Inspector (BSEE)
This is a critical supervisory role that combines highly specialized technical inspections with management duties. The focus is on ensuring safe and environmentally responsible offshore energy production operations.
1. Key Responsibilities (Duties)
-
Supervision and Leadership: Planning, assigning, and supervising the work of a team of subordinate Production Operations Inspectors who conduct field inspections on offshore facilities (platforms, drilling rigs, pipelines).
-
Enforcement: Overseeing and actively participating in the inspection and audit of offshore production and pipeline facilities to ensure compliance with Federal laws, regulations (like 30 CFR Part 250), and BSEE orders.
-
Technical Expertise: Applying expert knowledge of offshore oil and gas production equipment (e.g., separators, compressors, meters), production measurement, and pipeline safety systems.
-
Incident Response: Directing and assisting in the investigation of incidents, accidents, or environmental non-compliance, and immediately ordering the shut-in of facilities that pose an imminent threat to personnel or the environment.
-
Training and Development: Serving as a subject matter expert for the District/Region, developing inspection strategies, and providing technical training and coaching to the inspection staff.
2. Required Qualifications (Typical)
-
Technical Background: Substantial, hands-on experience in the petroleum industry, often in offshore production operations, drilling, or pipeline maintenance.
-
Supervisory Experience: Demonstrated experience managing, directing, and evaluating the work of other technical or field personnel.
-
Regulatory Knowledge: Expert knowledge of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA) and BSEE regulations governing production operations.
-
Physical Requirements: Ability to travel regularly to and from offshore platforms and facilities, often requiring helicopter travel, physically demanding climbs, and working in remote locations.
This is a demanding position that requires both a strong technical foundation and proven leadership abilities in a high-stakes regulatory environment.
