Mission: From Harm to Home

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises, helping restore safety, dignity, and hope. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC works in over 40 countries. This internship in the Los Angeles (Glendale) office offers a unique opportunity to directly support refugees and immigrants as they navigate the complex U.S. legal system.

Core Responsibilities & Learning Outcomes

  • Case Management Support: Assisting the Immigration Department in preparing applications for family reunification, citizenship, and permanent residency (Green Cards).

  • Legal Research: Conducting research on country conditions and evolving immigration policies to support asylum and protective status claims.

  • Client Interaction: Helping refugees and local immigrants gather necessary documentation and providing updates on their case status.

  • Administrative Operations: Managing client files, data entry in legal databases, and ensuring all paperwork meets USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) standards.

Work Schedule & Status

  • Duration: 4–6 months starting Winter 2025.

  • Commitment: 15 hours per week during standard business hours.

  • Status: This is an unpaid internship designed for educational growth and community impact.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: Current undergraduate or graduate student, or recent graduate with an interest in Law, International Relations, or Social Work.

  • Skills: Strong organizational skills, empathy, and the ability to work with diverse populations.

  • Language: Proficiency in a second language (such as Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, or Armenian) is highly desirable but not required.

  • Ethics: Must adhere to the IRC Way (Integrity, Service, Accountability, and Equality).
